A new international network for Mission Penelope Gandhi: we are supporting WEAVE , a European project managed by Explora the Children’s Museum of Rome in Italy, Waag Society in Netherlands and Association Art Land in Bulgaria.
Weaving Europe: Artefacts, Values & Exchanges – Cycles of cultural events and ateliers to discover Culture and Art through Textiles and Fibre Artefacts in Europe aims to meet 3-12 years old children, families, schools, teachers, museums operators, University researchers and students, designers, fibre & textile artists to promote the cultural heritage through an innovative and not formal approach, learning by doing activities, hands-on experiences and art performances.
WEAVE main aim is to offer 3 free events (September – October 2014) about textile art in Amsterdam, Sofia and Rome: “ZigZag – Textile, fibre and felt: it’s a Smart Child’s play!”
During the events, children, families and schools are encouraged to playfully discover textile and fibre art and the cultural heritage from a European perspective.
Key elements of the project are also the training workshops with teaching packs for teachers, 12 textile workshops and videotutorials, 3 press conferences, a good practice guide and a photo exhibition in which the whole experience of the project is shown to public.
Mission Penelope Gandhi will support the dissemination and communication of WEAVE project at in Crete, in Athens and Peloponnese.
Moreover WEAVE sustainability will be garanteed by the dissemination of all the textile workshops to schools in Crete: they will be involved as users of the workshops.
This experience would also be a valuable opportunity for us to build an informative cultural exchange with the museum professionals and other European partners united by a common topic: textile art.
WEAVE is a project with the support of the Culture Programme (2007-2013) of the European Union.
